Jerry Springer rose to national fame in the 1990s as the host of the Outrageous daytime talk show The Jerry Springer Show. Before that, he had been active in politics, working as a campaign aide for Robert F. Kennedy and serving several years on the Cincinnati City Council including one year as mayor. A cultural icon, Springer produced and starred in the semi-autobiographical 1998 film Ringmaster about a raunchy and controversial daytime talk show. He recently made his West End debut playing Billy Flynn in the London production of Kander & Ebb's Chicago the Musical.
