Ellen Jane Carr was born in Essex, England. She first appeared on screen as Mary McGregor in the 1969 film version of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and went on to appear in numerous film and television roles including Austin Powers, The Gilmore Girls, Friends and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She spent eight years with the Royal Shakespeare Company before relocating to the US, where she received a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play for her Broadway debut playing numerous roles in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby. She is currently appearing as Mrs. Brill in the Broadway production of Mary Poppins.
