One of the most recognizable voices on the American stage, Harvey Fierstein made his debut at La Mama Experimental Theater Club in the 1971 production of Andy Warhol's play, Pork. His breakout role was in Torch Song Trilogy (1980), a play he wrote and starred in, for which he won two Tony Awards, two Drama Desks, and an Obie. He has written the book for Broadway musicals like A Catered Affair, Legs Diamond, and La Cage Aux Folles for which he won another Tony Award. As an actor, Fierstein has appeared on Broadway in A Catered Affair, Fiddler on the Roof, and Hairspray the Musical in which he originated the role of Edna Turnblad. His film work includes roles in Mrs. Doubtfire, Independence Day, and Bullets Over Broadway. Fierstein is one of only two people ever to win Tony Awards in four different categories. In 2009, he took over the role of Fevye from Chaim Topol in the "farewell" National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof. He was most recently seen on Broadway in the revival of La Cage.
