Geraldine James made her Broadway debut in the 1962 run of Macbeth.? She has since appeared on Broadway as Portia in The Merchant of Venice with Dustin Hoffman, a performance which garnered her a Drama Desk Award.? James is now appearing as Gertrude in Hamlet, opposite Jude Law.? James' numerous other theater credits include Victory, Lysistrata, and Death and the Maiden.? Her film credits include Calendar Girls, Alice in Wonderland, Gandhi, and the upcoming Sherlock Holmes, also with Jude Law.? She has appeared most recently on the television series Little Britain USA. In 2003, James was appointed an Officer of the British Empire (OBE).? She is a graduate of Drama Centre London.
