George Akram was born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised into a family of prominent dancers. His big break was an appearance on a children's television show at the age of six. At 17, he moved to the United States where he has performed with Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Celia Cruz, Alejandro Sanz, and many others. Akram danced with Meryl Streep and Greg Kinnear in the 2003 film Stuck on You (under the billing George Drija). His most recent stage credit is the Latin American hit Visa Para un Sueño (Visa for a Dream). West Side Story is his Broadway debut.
