Cynthia Nixon is perhaps best known to mainstream audiences at Miranda Hobbes from the hit HBO television series Sex and the City, which ran from 1998-2004 and led to two subsequent feature films that were produced after the series ended. Nixon is well-known to theater audiences for performances in plays such as The Women, which was filmed for PBS's Stage on Screen series and Rabbit Hole for which she was awarded the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Her other theater credits include The Real Thing, Hurlyburly, and Angels in America. In addition to her role on Sex and the City, Nixon has appeared on television in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, ER,House M.D. , and the HBO movie Warm Springs, for which she received an Emmy nomination. Her film credits include Addams Family Values, Marvin's Room, and The Out-of-Towners. Outside of her acting career, Nixon is an activist for education and the LGBT community.
