Bio:
André De Shields is best known for the groundbreaking Broadway musicals The Wiz (he originated the title role) and Ain't Misbehavin', which he did in 1978 and 1988 and on television in 1982 in an Emmy-winning performance. His two Tony nominations are for the musicals Play On! and The Full Monty. Other Broadway credits include the current Impressionism along with Prymate, André De Shields' Harlem Nocturne, and the legendary 1973 musical flop Rachael Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It, which closed in previews. He also helped choreograph a couple of Bette Midler's famous Broadway appearances during the mid-1970s. Recent stage credits include such Classical Theatre of Harlem productions as Black Nativity, King Lear, Dream on Monkey Mountain, and Caligula. De Shields is a professor at New York University.
