Bio:
Maggie Gyllenhaal was born in 1977 in Los Angeles to director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal. After graduating from Columbia, she studied at London's Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts. She appeared in numerous supporting roles (including playing the sister of brother Jake Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko) before receiving widespread acclaim for the lead role in 2002's Secretary. She then went on to star in Happy Endings, Sherrybaby (for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe), Stranger than Fiction and World Trade Center. Gyllenhaal took on the role of Rachel Dawes (originated in Batman Begins by Katie Holmes) in 2008's The Dark Knight, which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.She made her theatrical debut in Berkeley Repetory Theatre's 2000 production of Closer, after which Tony Kushner cast her as Priscilla in 2004's Homebody/Kabul. She recently starred in Classic Stage Company's Uncle Vanya opposite husband, Peter Saarsgard.
