Joan Allen has been a member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company since 1977 where her many credits include major productions of Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead and Fifth of July and C. P. Taylor's And a Nightingale Sang. Her Broadway credits include the original company of Wilson's Burn This for which she won a Tony, the original production of The Heidi Chronicles for which she was Tony-nominated, and the current Impressionism with Jeremy Irons. Other major New York credits include the premieres of The Marriage of Bette and Boo, which starred Allen, and featured Olympia Dukakis, Mercedes Ruehl, and the playwright, Christopher Durang. Allen has been nominated for three Academy Awards for The Contender, The Crucible, and Nixon. Other screen credits include The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy, The Upside of Anger, The Notebook, Pleasantville, Face/Off, The Ice Storm, Searching for Bobby Fischer, In Country, Tucker, Peggy Sue Got Married, Manhunter, Compromising Positions, and the miniseries "The Mists of Avalon."
