Born in Sevierville, Tennessee, Dolly Parton began her country music career as a teenager, performing on Tennessee Radio and at the Grand Ole Opry. She produced her first full-length solo album, Hello, I'm Dolly at the age of 21. Her breakout performance as an actress was the 1980 film 9 to 5, costarring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Parton was nominated for an academy award for the title song "9 to 5" and would be nominated again in 2005 for her song "Travelin' Thru," featured in the film Transamerica. She went on to compose the score for 9 to 5: The Musical on Broadway, garnering Drama Desk and Tony nominations for her first stage venture. She is the winner of seven Grammy Awards and, in 2006 was honored by the Kennedy Center for her contribution to the Arts. In addition to her artistic achievements, Parton is the co-owner of Dollywood, a popular amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Her literacy program, The Imagination Library, provides books to pre-school children and currently operates in all 95 Tennessee counties and has extended to over 839 communities worldwide.
