Dianne Wiest was born in Kansas City, Missouri. One of Wiest's major early stage roles was in the Public Theater's production of Ashes. In 1982, she played Desdemona on Broadway opposite James earl Jones in Othello. Her major film credits include her Academy Award winning performances in Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway. Other film credits include The Birdcage, The Parent Trap, Edward Scissorhands, I Am Sam, Footlose, Radio Days (Oscar nomination), The Horse Whisperer, and Dan in Real Life. Her television credits include repeated guests appearances on Law and Order, The 10th Kingdom, and In Treatment.
