The Sons of Tennessee Williams to Be Screened as Theater Festival Benefit

The film The Sons of Tennessee Williams will be screened on Sunday, July 18 as a benefit for the 5th annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival. The event will be held at The Paramount at the Crown and Anchor, with a cocktail social at 6pm, followed by the film at 7pm.

Written and directed by Tim Wolff, this feature documentary tells the story of the ‘southern bachelor gentlemen’ in New Orleans who created a fantastic culture of “drag balls” to defy laws restricting public assembly, same-sex dancing and cross-dressing.

Special guests at the benefit will include blogger Andrew Sullivan, drag performer Varla Jean Merman (aka Jeffery Roberson), and Albert Carey, one of the “stars” of the film.

The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival will be held Sptember 23-27. The theme of this year’s event is Under the Influence, and will feature performances of Williams’ work, complemented by the work of others that influenced him and contemporary artists he has inspired.
