WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Lincoln Center Theater will present the world premiere of Thou Shalt Not, a new musical with book by David Thompson, music and lyrics by Harry Connick, Jr., and direction and choreography by Susan Stroman. Thou Shalt Not is a story of uncontrollable passion set in New Orleans after World War II. Based on Emile Zola's "Therese Raquin," the musical follows the tale of a young married woman whose life is changed by the arrival of a jazz musician returning from the war. The cast stars Craig Bierko, Leo Burmaster, Norbert Leo Butz, Kate Levering, and Debra Monk.

Susan Stroman has dreamed up a couple dozen marvelous ideas for Thou Shalt
Not, an adaptation of Emile Zola's Thérèse Raquin. The noted director/choreographer has reportedly wanted to do the adaptation ever since her late husband, Mike Ockrent, handed her a copy of the steamy 1867 novel of sin and retribution among lower-class Parisians. In realizing her wish, Stroman has executed some eye-popping, jaw-dropping thou-shalts; the problem is that, when it comes to big musicals (or any kind of musical), you need a hundred or more thou-shalts, a tally she reached in The Producers.
