About This Venue
Believe it or not, this playhouse existed long before its best-known tenant, Cats. Built in 1911 by the Shuberts, it was the home to some of the top vaudeville acts of the day. Legendary performer Al Jolson entertained here at the height of his popularity. Famed musicals presented here include West Side Story, Follies, and Funny Girl. The semi-circular auditorium and the thrust stage make this one of the best Broadway theaters for viewing the action. The Winter Garden has a seating capacity of 1,548 to 1,608.
