Delighted I got to see this show!
I actually won tickets to see this show and am delighted I got to see it before it closed. I was deeply moved by the story and thought the performances, set, lyrics and score were all wonderful. The score was etherial in places and earthy in others, but well balanced and beautifully performed by two fantastic actors. The set and overall production were fully realized and everything blended perfectly. That I have worked in a bookstore for over 20 years and have unfortunately had a friend commit suicide might explain a bit of why I was moved to tears, but moreso was the chemistry and deeply felt certainty that these two men were perfect for each other in whatever form their friendship took. Kudos to these fine performers and the production who brought it all to life. My condolences to those who didnt get a chance to see this perfection especially the Butterfly song. I hope it will be released for production & an original cast recording will be released so I can relish it again.

In journalism, getting the story is good, but getting the story behind the story is better. In the new musical, The Story of My Life, now at Broadway's Booth Theatre, composer-lyricist Neil Bartram and librettist Brian Hill have come up with something good, but had they also supplied the story crouching behind the story, they could have produced an ultimately more satisfying piece of theater.
Over the course of this lean and smart-looking 90-minute show, which has been directed smartly by Richard Maltby Jr., Alvin Kelby (Malcolm Gets) and Thomas Weaver (Will Chase) examine a close friendship that began when they were brought together by their facially hirsute but psychologically astute firs[...]
