WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Nominated for 6 Tony Awards including Best Best!
The Motherf**ker with the Hat is a new high-octane, verbal cage match about love, fidelity, and misplaced haberdashery from playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis. Jackie and Veronica have been in love since the 8th grade. But now, Jackie is on parole and living clean and sober under the guidance of his sponsor, Ralph D, while still living and loving with his volatile soul mate Veronica who is fiercely loving, but far from sober. Still, their love is pure. And true. Nothing can come between them - except a hat.
This world premiere play stars Bobby Cannavale, Chris Rock, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Annabella Sciorra and Yul Vazquez.
Student rush tickets are $26.50 and available when the box office opens on the day of each performance. There is a limit of two tickets per person and a valid student ID is required. Tickets and locations are subject to availability.

Excellent Acting Can't Save Misdirected Production
The performers in "The Mother***With the Hat, are all excellent, with stand-out Tony nominated performances by Bobby Cannavale and Yul Vasquez. The play, however, was totally misdirected. There is probably only one scene in the whole play, between Mssrs. Cannavale and Vasquez that rings true. Everything, as well as the able cast is directed to play their roles as out-and-out vulgar, boistrous stereotypes, not very funny ,since youre dealing with totally damaged people. I know that the material is often bleak and unrelenting, but must every line and action be delivered in order to get a laugh? I would like to see this play done under another directors aegis one day, since it did have a good story line, dealing with contemporary subjects.

An Unnecessary Headache
I was roped into this by the "rave" mainstream reviews, and the interesting cast. Twenty minutes into the show I was glad Id bought the cheapest ticket!
I suppose if your life has been vanilla, and you crave time spent with mostly loud, profane addict types
youll get something out of this. I found it mostly humorless, and totally unenlightening.
In summary: I was NOT remotely
entertained here.Sorry!

The title of playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis' , The Motherf**ker with the Hat, at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, may strike some as provocative and/or vulgar. But it's also quite appropriate for this bracingly funny play -- the author's first to hit Broadway -- in which passion and profanity form a heady mix.
In the very first scene, squabbling lovers Jackie (Bobby Cannavale) and Veronica (Elizabeth Rodriguez) alternate between cursing each other out and declaring their love. The insults they hurl are both cruel and often exceedingly hilarious. The argument starts once Jackie notices a hat that is definitely not his within the shabby apartment that he shares with Veronica. He accuses her o[...]
