The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway is a special celebrity benefit, with an all-star line-up that includes Bebe Neuwirth, Billy Crudup, Alan Cumming, Julianna Margulies, Liev Schreiber, Rosie Perez, Sam Rockwell, Fisher Stevens, Brooke Shields, Giancarlo Esposito and Rachel Dratch in short plays written by Warren Leight, Matthew Barber, Diana Son, Christopher Shinn and others.

Playground, and produced by Planet Impact and the 24 Hour Company, The 24 Hour Plays are six brand-new plays written, rehearsed and performed in a single day. The process begins at 10pm the night before the show, when a group of 6 writers, 6 directors, actors and production staff gather for a brief meeting. The writers have until dawn to each compose a ten-minute play. The next morning, the casts meet for the first time and quickly get to work rehearsing -- with 12 hours until opening night there's no time to waste. Working Playground, Inc. was founded in 1991 to bring the arts into New York City classrooms. Their theater, video, visual arts, dance, design and
poetry programs have visited over 139 New York City public schools and
engaged more than 7,000 young people, teachers and community members. Over the last two years The 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Benefit has supported Working Playground to provide the arts to more than 1100 young people citywide. This year's proceeds will support Working Playground's Permanent Schools Program. The PS program will provide in depth arts education to 8 public schools and 800 young people citywide.
