Synopsis

Roundabout Theatre Company presents The Menier Chocolate Factory's Olivier Award winning production of Stephen Sondheim & James Lapines Pulitzer Prize winning musical Sunday in the Park with George, directed by Sam Buntrock.

* Roundabout's production of Sunday in the Park with George is recreating Georges Seurat's masterpiece "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," dot by dot. Help us fill in the image at Connect: The Dot Project

The Georges Seurat painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette," is the inspiration for this compelling musical fantasy which celebrates the art of creation and the creation of art. The first half of Sunday in the Park with George, set in 1884, sees the painting and its rich comic tapestry come to life in a world where, for Georges, art comes before love, before everything. In the second half, set in 1980s New York, we see the great grandson of Georges and his search for inspiration amongst the unfolding world of contemporary art.

Looked forward to seeing the show, but it was slow and boring.

Review: Best by JackRamp

The second act is just working now better than ever...the whole production is amazing with George Evans replacing annoying Mandy as George

Review: Brilliant by raulmark

I loved this show...from the story to the music. The digital imaging was breathtaking without taking away from the acting and music. I plan to see it again.

Review: A masterpiece by ryyyman

A master work given a brilliant and moving production. Everything works -- the acting, the singing both soloists and ensembles, the orchestra, the lighting, the staging, the book, and, most of all, Stephen Sondheims unforgettably haunting music and words.
