WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Laurence Fishburne stars in Thurgood, a new play by George Stevens, Jr., directed by Leonard Foglia.
The one-man show tells the remarkable and triumphant story of Thurgood Marshall, who rose from a childhood in the backstreets of Baltimore to the Supreme Court of the United States. Along the way, Mr. Marshall overcame many adversities but through them all, remained focused and positive to maintain the great country he wanted to serve. And did. Thurgood brings to the stage the words, the wit, the tenacity and the wisdom of one of American's greatest heroes.

The first, courtesy of George Stevens Jr.'s somewhat inelegant 90-minute script, is the overwhelming historical importance of Thurgood Marshall, the Baltimore-bred lawyer who, in 1954, argued (and won) one of the most landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases in history, "Brown v. Board of Education," which ended segregation in public schools -- and who, just 13 years later, became the first African-American appointed to the Supreme Court.
The second lesson is delivered by Laurence Fishburne, who instantly commands the stage with consummate ease, wringing enormous humor, pa[...]
