WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Manhattan Theatre Club presents playwright David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama, Proof. An enigmatic young woman, her manipulative sister, their brilliant father, and an unexpected suitor are all pieces of the puzzle in this search for the truth behind the authorship of a mysterious mathematical proof. Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan helms a top-notch cast including Anne Heche, Len Cariou, Neil Patrick Harris, and Kate Jennings Grant.

Director Daniel Sullivan has many talents: One need only look at the past few years, and his glorious productions of classics such as Ah, Wilderness!, and soon-to-be-classics such as Dinner With Friends, for evidence. But he has a particular knack for stage kisses. Hopeless romantic that I am, I remember these three most vividly: Lisa Emery and Michael Hayden in Far East (the kiss was sweet, tentative, proper); Cherry Jones and Gabriel Byrne in Broadway's A Moon for the Misbegotten (passionate, desperate, clinging); and Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Shenkman in Proof, which just opened at Manhattan Theatre Club's Stage 1.
