WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Jeffrey Finn Productions with Stuart Thompson Productions present two-time Tony Award winner and Academy Award nominee James Earl Jones (Fences, The Great White Hope) in his eagerly-awaited return to the Broadway stage, starring opposite Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams (Hallelujah, Baby!, King Hedley II) in a new production of Academy Award-winning Ernest Thompson's beloved play On Golden Pond. Directed by Leonard Foglia (Master Class), this acclaimed new production premiered this Fall at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
In the play, retired New England professor Norman Thayer and his spirited wife Ethel decide to spend one final summer at their family's lakeside cottage in Maine. En route to a European honeymoon, the couple's estranged daughter Chelsea arrives to leave behind her fiancé's troubled young son. Colliding generations soon forge common ground, but when Chelsea returns to discover Norman playing the father she never had, years of bitter memories and resentment rise to the surface. An intimate family drama laced with humor and heart, On Golden Pond explores growing up, growing old and growing closer.
Please note: Due to illness, James Earl Jones is no longer performing, and the role of Norman Thayer is played by his standby, Charles Turner.

While the current Broadway revival of On Golden Pond is unlikely to erase memories of the 1981 film, with its sublime performances by Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn, it is still a respectable and in many ways admirable effort. Ernest Thompson's play is a poignant yet comic exploration of aging and family dynamics. Perhaps in an effort to underscore its universal appeal, this production -- directed by Leonard Foglia -- features a predominantly African-American cast.
The legendary actor James Earl Jones stars as the curmudgeonly Norman Thayer. Norman and his wife Ethel (Leslie Uggams) are spending their 48th summer together at their cabin on Golden Pond in Maine. Norman turns 80 this year[...]
