Starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, Oleanna is a gripping account of a power struggle between a male university professor and one of his female students. WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

David Mamet's Oleanna is one of those plays that's practically guaranteed to spark heated conversations between theatergoers long after the brief one-hour-and-fifteen-minute play is over. That's certainly the case with Doug Hughes' revival, which has arrived at Broadway's Golden Theatre following a successful run at Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum. Indeed, stars Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles bring out a number of nuances in the provocative two-hander, which could have audience members switching allegiances at various points in the production.

The play depicts three encounters between university professor John (Pullman) and student Carol (Stiles). What transpires in each scene is fully present[...]

True to Mamets work, this play is uncomfortable. The character development is precise; the actors are direct. The plays execution is flawless with Doug Hughes at the helm.

RE:Average Show - nothing special
As a Mamet fan I didnt want to miss this one. Its 1:15 minutes long with no intermission & just two characters. The first 20-30 minutes were so boring that I almost wanted to leave. The man next to me fell asleep. By the 2nd act I was finally at least a little interested....but barely. The characters dont seem properly developed. The story leaves more questions than answers.....& I couldnt care less really the answer to those questions. It tries hard to be controversial but the story is just too predictable. I didnt like either main character nor care about either one of them. Pullmans character is an overly verbose philosopher type. I enjoyed him at times and dont think it was his fault that I wasnt drawn in, it was the material. By the 3rd act when Stiles character comes back to Pullmans office I was just thinking....this is so ridiculously unbelievable. Why would he let her back in his office. It did have a very good final scene & * thought Pullman and Stiles did a GREAT job with that. There was a Q&A after the show with a woman who didnt seem to know anything about the play. It was a waste of time.
