WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

With a sparkling score of beloved standards and a whimsical story that dances between romance, satire, and fairy tale, Finian's Rainbow is a musical theater treasure. Set in the mythical southern state of Missitucky, Finian's Rainbow pits a charming Irish dreamer and his headstrong daughter against the host of complications that await them in their newly adopted land: a bigoted southern Senator, a credit crisis, a pesky leprechaun, and, of course, a complicated love affair that gives birth to some of the most witty, charming and heartfelt songs ever written for the stage.

The musical's score boasts such classic songs as "Old Devil Moon," "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love (I Love the Girl I'm Near)," "Look to the Rainbow," and "If This Isn't Love."

The production stars Jim Norton (Finian McLonergan), Kate Baldwin (Sharon McLonergan), Cheyenne Jackson (Woody Mahoney), Christopher Fitzgerald (Og) and Chuck Cooper (Bill).

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

Throughout the musical
Finian's Rainbow, now being gloriously revived at Broadway's St. James Theatre, leprechaun Og (the prodigiously gifted Christopher Fitzgerald) does any number of eye-popping magic tricks. They are not, however, the only whiz-bang magic that makes this production (based on a previous staging at City Center Encores!) soar. The other, even grander magic is the kind that occurs when every single production element coalesces into one incandescently seamless whole.

The show takes place in the fictional town of Rainbow Valley, Missitucky, where folks of all races live in harmony, and where wily Finian McLonergan (Jim Norton) and daughter Sharon (Kate Baldwin) have arrived [...]

Finian's Rainbow, a joy
What a wonderful evening of theater. I probably see 30 or more shows a year in NYC, and I loved everything about this show so much, I would like to see it again.

A light hearted, heartwarming musical
If you are looking for an action packed, heroic adventure with songs equivalent to defying gravity from wicked, do not go to finians rainbow. However, if you are looking for a classic, romantic tale with comedy on the side that makes you feel warm and touched, then rush to see this oustanding revival. My family and I went, and could not find one thing wrong with the production. The set is absolutely beautiful, transporting the audience to the beautiful Rainbow Valley. The music is beautiful, the choreography is oustanding, showcasing Alina Faye as a mute who speaks through dancing, Cheyenne Jackson was strong and commanding, Kate Baldwin was absolutely beautiful, with a soft soprano that touches your heart from the first note she sings, Jim Norton marveled as an old man who has chased dreams all of his life, and Christopher Fitzgerald was a scene stealer as the extremely fun, energetic and playful Og. Showstoppers included Terri Whites "Necesity" and Chuck Coopers "The Begat." The ending is beautiful, and can touch the heart of a telephone pole. It rushes both tear and joy to your heart. Rush to see this oustanding musical before it is too late.
