The Color Purple Celebrates 1st Year on Broadway

The Tony-winning Broadway revival of The Color Purple celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday, December 10, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

The Color Purple, which opened on December 10, 2015, will end its run January 8, 2017. The musical is adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It features a book by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. Tony winners Cynthia Erivo as Celie and Jennifer Holliday as Shug Avery, as well as Carrie Compere as Sofia, Jennie Harney as Nettie, Nathaniel Stampley as Mister, and Kyle Scatliffe as Harpo.

The company of The Color Purple also includes Phoenix Best, Dwayne Clark, Lawrence Clayton, Patrice Covington, J. Daughtry, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, Kevin Mambo, Ken Robinson, Antoine L. Smith, Carla R. Stewart, Akron Watson, and Rema Webb.
