Taye Diggs launches his Broadway run in Hedwig and the Angry Inch tonight at the Belasco Theatre. He'll be covered in eye shadow and glitter for the next 12 weeks, performing as the title transgender rock star through October 11 opposite Rebecca Naomi Jones, who costars in the role of Yitzhak.

Diggs follows in an illustrious line of previous Hedwigs, which includes Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, Golden Globe Award winner Michael C. Hall, the show's cocreator and original off-Broadway star John Cameron Mitchell, and Darren Criss of Glee stardom, who played his final performance on July 19.

Diggs' run in Hedwig marks his first New York stage appearance since 2005, when he starred in Second Stage Theatre's off-Broadway revival of A Soldier's Play. His musical theater credits also include Carousel, Rent, Chicago, Wicked, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. On-screen he has been seen in How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday, the film versions of Rent and Chicago, and the series Private Practice and Murder in the First.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch opened on Broadway April 22, 2014, and earned four Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. With a book by John Cameron Mitchell and a score by Stephen Trask, the high-octane production follows the titular transgender rock performer as she recounts her life during a concert at Broadway's Belasco Theatre, where the musical runs.
