Broadway's new musical comedy Something Rotten! will record an original Broadway cast album with Ghostlight Records, set for digital release on June 2.

Directed by Tony winner Casey Nicholaw, the show features music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick.

A tribute to musical theater, Something Rotten! is set in 1590s England and follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, a pair of brothers desperate to write a play, but are stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When they're told by a local soothsayer that the future of theater involves, singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, they set out to write the world's first musical.

Performances began at the St. James Theatre March 26, in advance of an April 22 opening. The cast stars stars Tony nominee Brian d'Arcy James (Shrek), Tony winner Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher), Tony nominee John Cariani (Fiddler on the Roof), Heidi Blickenstaff ([title of show]), Tony nominee Brad Oscar (The Producers), Kate Reinders (Wicked), Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me), Peter Bartlett (Cinderella), Gerry Vichi (The Drowsy Chaperone), and Michael James Scott (The Book of Mormon).
