Tony-nominated director Simon McBurney (All My Sons) makes his Broadway acting debut tonight with the New York premiere of The Encounter. The production began previews September 20. It plays the John Golden Theatre.

Conceived and directed by McBurney, the work is presented by his acclaimed company, Theatre de Complicite. Inspired by the book Amazon Beaming by Petru Popescu, The Encounter follows a National Geographic photographer as he finds himself lost in a remote area of Brazil. Using 3-D audio technology, audience members are asked to wear headphones throughout the performance to provide a mix of live and recorded sound. The show premiered in August 2015 at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Codirected by Kirsty Housley, The Encounter features sets and costumes by Michael Levine, sound by Gareth Fry with Pete Malkin, lighting with Paul Anderson, and projections by Will Duke. Richard Katz will perform the show at Wednesday matinees throughout the show's Broadway run.
