Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel's new play Indecent will celebrate its opening at Broadway's Cort Theatre today. Directed by Rebecca Taichman, the drama began performances April 4.

A play with music, Indecent is inspired by the controversial Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's 1923 play God of Vengeance. Some saw it as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and others as an act of traitorous libel. The Broadway mounting is a transfer of the Vineyard Theatre production, which ran off-Broadway in 2016 in association with La Jolla Playhouse and Yale Repertory Theatre. The production marks the Broadway debuts of Vogel and Taichman.

As with the off-Broadway production, the company is made up of Katrina Lenk (Once), Mimi Lieber (Act One), Max Gordon Moore (Relatively Speaking), Tom Nelis (The Visit), Steven Rattazzi (The Fourth Sister), Richard Topol (Fish in the Dark), and Adina Verson (Him). Co-composers Aaron Halva and Lisa Gutkin serve as the onstage band alongside Matt Darriau.

The production's creative team includes David Dorfman (choreographer), Riccardo Hernandez (scenic designer), Emily Rebholz (costume designer), Chris Akerlind (lighting designer), Matt Hubbs (sound designer), and Tal Yarden (projection designer).
