The producers of Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch have announced that the production has raised over $600,000 for the Hetrick-Martin Institute during its run at the Belasco Theatre.

HMI is an organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ youth reach their full potential in life. The musical donated a portion of each sold ticket's price to HMI, home of Harvey Milk High School, a New York City public transfer school where some of the city's most at-risk youth can learn without the threat of physical violence and emotional harm posed in a traditional educational environment. The relationship between Hedwig and HMI dates back to 2003, when the tribute album Wig in a Box: Songs From and Inspired by Hedwig and the Angry Inch was released to benefit the organization.

"All of us at HMI are deeply thankful for the years of generous support, care, and love our youth have received from Hedwig's producers, creative team, cast and crew," says Thomas Krever, chief executive officer of the Hetrick-Martin Institute. "Hedwig will always be a part of the HMI family, and their positive impact cannot be understated."

Featuring music by Stephen Trask and text by Mitchell, the musical tells the story an East German transgender punk rocker who brought her latest concert to Broadway's Belasco Theatre, following a failed musical adaptation of The Hurt Locker.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch plays its final Broadway performance on Sunday, September 13. The show currently stars Taye Diggs in the title role opposite Rebecca Naomi Jones as Yitzhak.
