Atlantic Records will release the original Broadway cast recording of the hit musical Hamilton, now in previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The album will be available for pre-order August 7 (the day after the musical's official Broadway opening) in advance of a fall release. The official release date will be announced in the coming weeks.

The album is executive produced by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter, founding members of the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop band, The Roots. "Ten minutes into Hamilton, though, I was just so stunned. It was such a sucker punch," says Thompson, reflecting on seeing the show for the first time. Trotter adds that the show "can be your
introduction to hip-hop — on Broadway. And it’s a valid one. It’s a
credible one."

Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America. The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a hip-hop score by Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also stars as the title character (Javier Muñoz takes on the role of Alexander Hamilton once a week).

The featured cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr), Drama Desk Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler), Phillipa Soo (Eliza Hamilton), Jonathan Groff (King George), Daveed Diggs (Marquis De Lafayette, Thomas Jefferson), Christopher Jackson (George Washington), Anthony Ramos (John Laurens, Phillip Hamilton), Okieriete Onaodowan (Hercules Mulligan, James Madison), and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Peggy Shuyler, Maria Reynolds).
