The new Broadway musical Groundhog Day has announced an updated performance schedule for its star, Andy Karl, who sustained a knee injury during the preview performance on Friday, April 14. Karl, who leads the cast as Phil Connors, was physically unable to perform over the weekend but returned for the opening night performance, on Monday, April 17, as well as last night's show.

It was confirmed this morning that, on the instruction of his doctors, Karl will take off four performances this week to rest and continue the process of recuperating from the injury. This week, Karl will perform the 8pm shows on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22. His understudy Andrew Call will step into the role of Phil Connors for the performances on Wednesday, April 19, at 2pm and 8pm; Thursday, April 20, at 7pm; and Saturday, April 22, at 2pm.

Based on the 1993 film, Groundhog Day (2017 Olivier Award-winning Best Musical) features a score by Matilda The Musical composer Tim Minchin and is directed by Matlida's Matthew Warchus, with original screenwriter Danny Rubin providing the book. The story follows disgruntled weatherman Phil Connors who finds himself stuck in small-town America reliving the same day over and over and over again.

Barrett Doss stars opposite Karl as TV producer Rita Hanson, alongside an ensemble that includes Rebecca Faulkenberry, John Sanders, Andrew Call, Raymond J. Lee, Heather Ayers, Kevin Bernard, Gerard Canonico, Rheaume Crenshaw, Michael Fatica, Katy Geraghty, Camden Gonzales, Jordan Grubb, Taylor Iman Jones, Tari Kelly, Josh Lamon, Joseph Medeiros, Sean Montgomery, William Parry, Jenna Rubaii, Vishal Vaidya, Travis Waldschmidt, and Natalie Wisdom.
