Flashback Friday: Rosie O'Donnell Predicts a Tony Award for Heather Headley

For ”The Color Purple”’s newest Shug Avery, belting her face off is “Easy as Life.”

Heather Headley played her first performance with The Color Purple on May 10, taking over for Jennifer Hudson in the role of Shug Avery. The part is reserved for big-voiced beltresses — a class that Headley proved herself to be part of during her Tony-winning performance as the title character in Aida in 2000. Take a look as she performs the showstopping Elton John and Tim Rice number "Easy As Life" on The Rosie O'Donnell Show — followed by a prescient comment by the host herself.
