Fiddler on the Roof Celebrates the First Night of Hanukkah Across New York City

The Broadway cast will perform at four events to celebrate the festival of lights.

The new Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof will celebrate the first night of Hanukkah with four major events this Sunday, December 6.

The cast will start the day at DOROT, a nonprofit organization aimed at improving the lives and health of the elderly. Members of the Fiddler cast will perform "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Sunrise, Sunset" and visit with the seniors, beginning at 11:30am at 171 West 85th Street.

At 1pm, the Macy’s Reading Circle on the seventh floor of Macy’s Herald Square will feature the stories of Sholem Aleichem. Cast members Adam Kantor, Samantha Massell, Melanie Moore, and Alexandra Silber will also be performing "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" and "Miracle of Miracles," followed by a reading of Aleichem’s classic tales by Elisa Stein, the wife of Fiddler‘s late bookwriter Joseph Stein. Fiddler‘s legendary lyricist Sheldon Harnick with then talk with Alisa Solomon — author of Wonder of Wonders: A Cultural History of Fiddler on the Roof — about his life and career at 2pm at the Museum at Eldridge Street. The program will also feature music by violinist Kate Mollica and is followed by a reception with traditional Hanukkah treats to follow. The day's events will then conclude with Hanucon, sponsored by Hebro, the gay Jewish social organization. The event will be held from 5-8pm on the second floor of Therapy Bar & Lounge at 348 West 52nd Street, where there will be latkes, drinks, and a DJ. The Fiddler cast will perform at 7:15pm followed by candle lighting. Attendees are encouraged to flaunt the spirit of the holiday with a Hanukkah sweater or a Star of David necklace.

Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Bartlett Sher, is now running at the Broadway Theatre in advance of an official December 20 opening. Five-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein stars as Tevye, opposite Jessica Hecht as Golde, Alexandra Silber as Tzeitel, Adam Kantor as Motel, Alix Korey as Yente, Samantha Massell as Hodel, Ben Rappaport as Perchik, Jessica Vosk as Fruma Sarah, Melanie Moore as Chava, Adam Dannheisser as Lazar Wolf, Aaron Young as Sasha, Nick Rehberger as Fyedka, and Karl Kenzler as the Constable.
