Longtime Cher Costumer Bob Mackie Will Create Costumes for The Cher Show

The new musical about Cher’s life premieres this summer in Chicago.

Cher's legendary and longtime costume designer Bob Mackie will create the costumes for the new musical The Cher Show, about the singer's life and career. The production has its world premiere at Chicago's Oriental Theatre June 12-July 15, before opening at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre this fall.

Joining Mackie on the creative team will be scenic designers Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, lighting designer Kevin Adams, and sound designer Nevin Steinberg. The musical features a book by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and is directed by Jason Moore (Avenue Q). Christopher Gattelli serves as choreographer, with Daryl Waters providing orchestrations, arrangements, and musical supervision. Cher's classic songs will make up the score.

Production notes describe the production as follows: "The Cher Show is based on the life of Cherilyn Sarkisian La Piere Bono Allman or as her friends call her, Cher! The kid on a tricycle, vowing to be famous. The teenage phenom who crashes by 20. The glam TV star who quits at the top. The would-be actress with an Oscar. The rock goddess with a hundred million records sold. The legend who's done it all, still scared to walk onstage. The wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend. The woman, looking for love. The ultimate survivor, chasing her dream. They’re all here, dressed to kill, singing their asses off, telling it like it is. And they're all the star of The Cher Show."

Casting is still to be announced.
