Two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters walked the red carpet with her Hello, Dolly! costars as her run in the title role of Dolly Gallagher Levi officially opened last night, February 22, at the Shubert Theatre. The evening also marked the opening night for Victor Garber, who stepped into the role of Horace Vandergelder, replacing David Hyde Pierce.

Directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, Hello, Dolly! is based on Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker and features a book by Michael Stewart and music from Jerry Herman. Hello, Dolly! premiered on Broadway in 1964, starring Carol Channing in the title role. A 1995 revival starred Channing in a return appearance. In addition to Channing, the role has been played by Pearl Bailey, Phyllis Diller, Betty Grable, Martha Raye, Ginger Rogers, Ethel Merman (in her last appearance on Broadway), and Mary Martin, who led the West End company.

The current Broadway cast includes Bernadette Peters as Dolly Gallagher Levi, Victor Garber as Horace Vandergelder, Gavin Creel as Cornelius Hackl, Kate Baldwin as Irene Molloy, Charlie Stemp as Barnaby Tucker, Molly Griggs as Minnie Fay, Will Burton as Ambrose Kemper, Melanie Moore as Ermengarde, Jennifer Simard as Ernestina, and Kevin Ligon as Rudolph.
