Opening Up

A Who's Who of Hollywood and Broadway -- including Steven Spielberg, Angela Lansbury, Elaine Stritch, Gary Sinise, and David Schwimmer -- come out for the openings of The Farnsworth Invention and August: Osage County.

...stage and screen star Oliver Platt, who came to support his college pal and former Huff co-star Hank Azaria, who plays RCA head David Sarnoff in the play...




















...and the legendary Tony Award-winning actress, Zoe Caldwell.





















Tuesday night's opening of August not only brought an amazing ensemble of actors from Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company to New York, it brought out a slew of A-list celebrities. Here's a quintet of musical theater's greatest leading ladies: four-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury, who wowed the crowd last week at the special Broadway's Back concert at the Marriott Marquis...


















...the inimitable Elaine Stritch, who will bring her award-winning show At Liberty to the Café Carlyle next month...





















..the fabulous Christine Ebersole, who begins a four-night stint tonight at Birdland and returns to the stage in February as Margo Channing in the City Center Encores! production of Applause...




















...South Pacific's new Nellie Forbush, the lovely Kelli O'Hara, who will join the New York City Gay Men's Chorus at their Holiday Spectacular concert on December 11...


















...and the amazing Ana Gasteyer, who's wowed audiences with her portrayals of Elphaba in Wicked and Fosca in Passion.



















Steppenwolf stalwart Gary Sinise was on hand to cheer his troupe, along with his beautiful CSI: NY co-star Melina Kanakaredes.


















Another of Chicago's favorite sons, former Friends star David Schwimmer, was among the opening night throng.





















Schwimmer's Caine Mutiny Court-Martial co-star Tim Daly -- now starring on the ABC series Private Practice -- came with wife Amy Van Nostrand.



















Among the other celebrities who braved the cold night were the great Alan Rickman, who gives a stunning performance as Judge Turpin in the soon-to-be released film version of Sweeney Todd...



















...John Krasinski, a star of the hit NBC sitcom The Office...





















...Evan Handler, who just wrapped the much-anticipated Sex and the City movie...



















...and the wonderful Joan Allen, soon to be seen in the films Good Sharma and Death Race.
