Billy Takes Broadway

The celebs turn out in force as Billy Crystal's one-man show 700 Sundays opens.

Last night at the Broadhurst Theatre, Billy Crystal made his Broadway debut in his one-man show 700 Sundays. "In this tribute to his parents in the form of a comic memoir," Barbara & Scott Siegel wrote in their TheaterMania.com review of the show, "Crystal details growing up in a Long Beach, Long Island house filled with 'the smell of bourbon and the sound of jazz.' Here is a middle-class Jewish kid who saw his first movie while sitting on the lap of Billie Holiday. Blessed with a unique, fascinating childhood, Crystal manages the artful trick of telling a one-of-a-kind story that is nevertheless poignantly universal in its appeal."
