Shrek Breaks Theater's Single-Day Box Office Record

Shrek The Musical, now in previews at the Broadway Theatre, earned $1,052,975 for the 8-performance week ending November 30, and set a single performance house record by grossing $184,320 for the Saturday, November 29 matinee. The show, which opens officially on December 14, is directed by Jason Moore, with choreography by Josh Prince.

The show stars Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek, Daniel Breaker as Donkey, John Tartaglia as Pinnochio, Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, and Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad. The cast also includes Haven Burton, Jennifer Cody, Ben Crawford, Bobby Daye, Ryan Duncan, Sarah Jane Everman, Aymee Garcia, Justin Greer, Lisa Ho, Chris Hoch, Danette Holden, Jacob Ming-Trent, Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, Marissa O'Donnell, Denny Paschall, Greg Reuter, Noah Rivera, Heather Jane Rolff, Jennifer Simard, Rachel Stern, Dennis Stowe, and David F.M. Vaughn.

The show, which is based on the story and characters from William Steig's book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the popular movie series, features book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire, and music by Jeanine Tesori. It will feature sets and costumes by Tim Hatley, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Peter Hylenski, and music direction by Tim Weil.
