Hot Feet to Bow on Broadway in April After D.C. Run

Hot Feet, a new musical to be directed and choregoraphed by Maurice Hines, will play Washington D.C.'s National Theater, March 18-April 9, before moving directly to Broadway. The show is scheduled to begin performances at a theater still to be announced on April 15, with an official opening slated for April 30. No casting has been announced.

The show will feature a score by Maurice White, the founder of the legendary pop group Earth, Wind and Fire, and a book by Heru Ptuah; the story is a variation on the classic tale The Red Shoes about a young dancer who makes a Faustian bargain in her quest for stardom. The show's creative team will be Jim Noone (sets), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Clifton Taylor (lighting), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design).

Hines made his Broadway debut in 1954 with his late brother, Gregory Hines, in The Girl in Pink Tights. He later appeared on Broadway in Eubie, Sophisticated Ladies, and Bring Back Birdie, and was the star, choreographer, and director of the short-lived musical revue Uptown... It's Hot!.
