George Wendt will join the Broadway cast of Hairspray in the role of Edna Turnblad, at the Neil Simon Theatre on Tuesday, October 23, continuing through Sunday, January 20. He replaces Paul Vogt in the role.

Wendt has starred in the West End and Broadway productions of Art, and the recent national tour of 12 Angry Men. He is best known for playing Norm Peterson in the popular television series, Cheers, which earned him six Emmy Award nominations. His film credits include Forever Young, Guilty By Suspicion, and Fletch.

The Broadway cast includes Jim J. Bullock as Wilbur, Shannon Durig as Tracy, Niki Scalera as Penny, Ashley Parker Angel as Link Larkin, Michele Pawk as Velma Von Tussle, Tevin Campbell as Seaweed, Lance Bass as Corny Collins, Ashley Spencer as Amber Von Tussle, and Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle.
