The hit musical Xanadu, based on the 1980 movie of the same title, will close at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Sunday, September 28 following the 3pm matinee. This is an earlier closing date than the previously announced October 12.

The show is directed by Christopher Ashley, and has a book by Douglas Carter Beane. The score, by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne, includes the pop hits "Magic," "Xanadu," "Party All Over the World," and "I'm Alive." The show received four Tony Award nominations, six Drama Desk Award nominations, and received the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Broadway Musical.

The cast is currently headlined by original stars Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Mary Testa, and Jackie Hoffman. The musical features choreography by Dan Knechtges, scenic design by David Gallo, costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella, projection design by Zachary Borovay, wig and hair design by Charles G. LaPointe, and musical direction by Eric Stern.

Xanadu will launch a national tour at the La Jolla Playhouse in November, followed by a six-month engagement at Chicago's Drury Lane. Plans are underway for a London production.
