The production won six 2005 Tony Awards: Best Actress in a Musical (Victoria Clark), Best Score (Adam Guettel); Best Set Design of a Musical (Michael Yeargan); Best Costume Design of a Musical (Catherine Zuber); Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Christopher Akerlind); and Best Orchestrations (Adam Guettel, Bruce Coughlin, and Ted Sperling). It also won five Drama Desk Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, The Light in the Piazza has a book by Craig Lucas. In addition to Clark, the show stars Kelli O'Hara, Aaron Lazar, Chris Sarandon, Michael Berresse, Sarah Uriarte Berry, and Patti Cohenour. The original cast recording is available on the Nonesuch label.
