The box office for the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Peter Shaffer's Equus, starring Daniel Radcliffe as troubled teen Alan Strang and Tony Award winner Richard Griffiths as Martin Dysart, will open on August 4 at 10 a.m.

Directed by Thea Sharrock, the production will play the Broadhurst Theatre, September 5-February 8, with an official opening on September 25. Both Radcliffe and Griffiths played their roles last year at London's Gielgud Theatre. The Broadway production also features actress Kate Mulgrew. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Equus tells the story of a deeply disturbed 17-year-old boy, and the psychiatrist who attempts to treat him. The original Broadway production of Equus opened in 1974 and ran for 1,209 performances. Peter Firth and Anthony Hopkins created the roles of Strang and Dysart, respectively; Hopkins was succeeded in his role by such actors as Richard Burton, Alec McCowen, Anthony Perkins, and Leonard Nimoy.

The revival features sets and costumes by John Napier, lighting by David Hersey, and sound design by Gregory Clarke.

Radcliffe is best known for playing Harry Potter in the series of films based on J.K. Rowling's novels; Griffiths, who appears in those films as Harry's uncle Vernon Dursley, won the Tony and Olivier Awards for his portrayal of Hector in The History Boys. Mulgrew's recent stage credits include Tea at Five, Our Leading Lady, and Iphigenia 2.0. She is well known for her work in such television series as Star Trek: Voyager and Ryan's Hope.
