Friedman, Christian, and Paice all starred in the London production of the musical, which was also directed by Nunn. Count Fosco was originally played by Michael Crawford, who left the show due to illness; Ball then took over the role. He has previously appeared on Broadway in Webber's Aspects of Love. In the West End, Ball has starred in , The Phantom of the Opera, and Passion. Next month, he will star in the New York City Opera production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience.
Friedman, considered one of Britain's leading musical theater performers, plays Marian Halcombe in The Woman in White. She has been nominated seven times for the Olivier Award, winning for her one-woman show Maria Friedman: By Special Engagement, Passion, and Ragtime. In New York, she has appeared at the Café Carlyle.
Christian, who plays Anne, was last seen on Broadway as Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Paice, who plays Laura, has been seen in Mamma Mia! and Les Misérables. Brazier, who will play Walter, was seen in Into the Woods. Bohmer, who will play Sir Percival, has starred on Broadway in the title role of The Scarlet Pimpernel and in Les Misérables and Fiddler on the Roof. Charles, who will play Mr. Farlie, has had leading roles in such Broadway shows as La Cage aux Folles, Cats, and Me and My Girl.
With music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by David Zippel, and a book by Charlotte Jones based on Wilkie Collins' novel, The Woman in White tells the story of a young man and the two sisters whom he tutors. The trio are haunted by a mysterious woman and must battle an ingenious villain.
