The long-delayed new Broadway musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will begin rehearsals in August, according to a report in The New York Times. No official performances dates have been announced, though the show is now expected to bow at the Hilton Theatre in November.

The musical is based on the Marvel Comics character, and follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down -- literally -- when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider.

Tony Award winner Julie Taymor will direct the show, which will feature music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2, and a book by Taymor and Glen Berger.

As previously announced, rock singer Reeve Carney will play Peter Parker/Spider Man. No other casting has been officially announced, although published reports have stated that Jennifer Damiano will play Mary Jane and Patrick Page will be the Green Goblin. Previously announced cast members Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming officially withdrew from the project earlier this year.
