 | | Richard Greenberg | New works by Wendy Wasserstein, Michael John LaChiusa, Richard Nelson, and Richard Greenberg will make up the 2005-2006 season at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater.
Wasserstein's Third will begin performances on September 29, starring two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest as a college professor whose life is thrown into turmoil after she charges one of her students with plagiarism. The cast also includes Tony Award winner Charles Durning, Amy Aquino, Gaby Hoffman, and Jason Ritter. Daniel Sullivan will direct the production, which will feature set design by Thomas Lynch, costumes by Jennifer Von Mayrhauser, lighting by Pat Collins, original music by Robert Waldman, and sound by Scott Stauffer.
Next up at the Newhouse will be The House of Bernarda Alba, a new musical based upon the Federico García Lorca play about a mother who exerts iron control over her daughters. Richard Nelson is writing the book, co-writing the score with Michael John LaChiusa, and co-directing the show with choreographer Graciela Daniele. Performances are set to begin on January 26.
The season will conclude with Richard Greenberg's The House in Town, to be directed by Doug Hughes. Performances will begin on May 11. (Hughes, who won a 2005 Tony Award for his direction of Doubt, is also directing another new play by Greenberg for the Roundabout Theatre Company: A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, set to begin performances on September 9 at the American Airlines Theater.)
Lincoln Center Theater is continuing to present The Light in the Piazza, the multiple Tony Award winning musical by Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Tickets for that show are on sale through January 1; no future plans for the Beaumont have been announced.
