The Full Monty may or may not be closing very soon. Beginning this weekend, the musical will be running ads saying that it is in its "final weeks" on Broadway.

Wayne Wolf of Barlow*Hartman (Monty's publicist) confirmed that no specific closing date has been set as of this writing, but the ads will indicate that the end is near. Shows with waning box office figures often announce "final weeks" in the hope of creating a surge in sales as ticket buyers take advantage of their last chance to catch a soon-to-be-gone show. If sales do rise, Monty will postpone its closing.

An Americanized musical stage adaptation of the British indie film of the same title, Monty concerns a group of unemployed steelworkers who decide to strip to earn some quick cash. The show opened on Broadway on October 26, 2000 to reviews that were mostly raves but was overlooked at the 2001 Tonys when Mel Brooks' mega-hit The Producers swept the awards.

Directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, The Full Monty has a book by Terrence McNally and music & lyrics by Broadway newcomer David Yazbek. The show's current cast includes Will Chase, Danny Gurwin, Annie Golden, and Andrea Burns. Tickets can be ordered through Tele-charge at 212-239-6200.
