(Photo © Joseph Marzullo) | Casting has been completed for the Broadway production of the London stage musical Mary Poppins, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title, which will begin performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre on October 14. The show is slated to open on November 16.
Joining previously announced Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee as Mary Poppins and Bert will be Daniel Jenkins (Mr. Banks), Rebecca Luker (Mrs. Banks), Mark Price (Robertson Ay), and Cass Morgan (Bird Woman).
The cast will also include Jane Carr (Mrs. Brill), Ruth Gottschall (Miss Andrew), and Michael McCarty (Admiral Boom). Katherine Doherty and Delaney Moro will alternate in the role of Jane Banks; while Henry Hodges and Alexander Scheitinger will alternate in the role of Michael Banks.
Featured in the ensemble will be Eric B. Anthony, Ann Arvia, Pam Bradley, Kristin Carbone, Brian Collier, Nick Corley, Case Dillard, Nicolas Dromard, James Hindman, Suzanne Hylenski, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Matt Loehr, Michelle Lookadoo, Tony Mansker, Tyler Maynard, Sean McCourt, Vasthy E. Mompoint, Jesse Nager, Kathleen Nanni, Megan Osterhaus, Janelle Anne Robinson, Rommy Sandhu, Phillip Spaeth, Shekitra Starke, Catherine Walker, and Kevin Yee.
Jenkins received a Tony Award nomination for his role of Huckleberry Finn in the original production of Big River; he has also appeared on Broadway in Angels in America, Big, Wrong Mountain, and the 2003 revival of Big River, in which he played Mark Twain and provided the speaking voice for Huck (played by deaf actor Tyrone Giordano). Luker received Tony nominations for her work in the revivals of Show Boat and The Music Man. She has also starred on Broadway in Nine, The Phantom of the Opera, The Secret Garden, and The Sound of Music. Price was last seen on Broadway in All Shook Up and co-starred in the recent City Center Encores! production of 70, Girls, 70. Morgan last appeared on Broadway in Ring of Fire.
Mary Poppins will be directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. It features a book by Julian Fellows and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The creative team for the production includes Bob Crowley (set and costume design), Howard Harrison (lighting design), Andrew Bruce (sound design), William David Brohn (orchestrations), and David Caddick (musical supervision).
