Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark to Hold Open Casting Calls in Multiple Cities

The forthcoming Broadway musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark — to be directed by Julie Taymor with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2 — will be holding open casting calls in Orlando, FL (April 9), New York, NY (April 13), Los Angeles, CA (April 18), Seattle, WA (April 20), Chicago, IL (May 7), and Austin, TX (May 27).

The musical is based on the Marvel Comics character, and follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down — literally — when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider. It will make its Broadway debut at the Hilton Theatre, with preview performances beginning January 16, 2010, and an opening date set for February 18.

The casting notice says that auditions are being held for “principals and understudies for the roles of ‘Peter Parker,’ ‘Mary Jane,’ and ‘Female Lead Villain.’ The production is looking for performers with dynamic rock/pop voices including those with experience in bands and as solo performers. Regardless of experience, anyone who thinks they might be qualified is encouraged to audition.”

Interested parties should bring a snapshot or photo of themselves and a brief pop/rock or rock song to sing. No accompanist or audio equipment will be provided.
