Needs a better leading man
by PamBot on Thursday, Jun 23rd, 2011 at 4:38 pmHe was creepy. strange vocal mannerisms and profusely sweaty, did not understand why anyone could be attracted to the character. The leading lady was very good, deserved a better partner.
Memphis
by grodsr on Thursday, Jun 2nd, 2011 at 7:54 amExcellent, Excellent, Excellent!!!! Everthing about the show was great. Great Music, Great Dancing, upbeat at all times no low parts in the show. I would see it again without a doubt.

Great Show
by drlemerande on Saturday, Mar 19th, 2011 at 12:41 pmJust looking for something to go to, and this turned out to be the surprise hit that the whole family loved. Historical musical fiction that gave my four kids a sense of race relations in more troubled times, but did it in a genuine way. i.e. The black guys arent the bad buys. The white guys arent the bad guys. Everyone has good and bad qualities that sometimes show forth in unhealthy ways for everyone. Very unique music that might go unnoticed. Traditional black, soulful harmonies paired with hick-hillbilly lead vocals combine to almost create a new genre that works very well and also complements the overall theme of the show, two very different racial groups with different expectations of each other and different customs, functioning together in order to accomplish something worthwhile, i.e. creating music. The play, fortunately in my view, isnt about some abstract concept like bringing peace to all races. Its about making music and how people can work together to do that.

Enjoyed despite the crowd
by BroadwayObsessed on Wednesday, Aug 4th, 2010 at 4:40 pmI went to see Memphis at a 2:00 showing and was not aware of the audience being mostly of children where I was sitting. For a brief moment I thought I wouldnt enjoy the show but I quickly changed my mind when the curtains went up and the ensemble started singing and dancing. I was moved by the voices of Felicia and Huey and also the love and history behind the play. I thoroughly recommend this play to anyone and hopefully I will also bring my students to see it soon!

A SOLIDLY ENTERTAINING "MEMPHIS"
by MRBDWAY on Saturday, Jun 12th, 2010 at 10:01 amThis is a show with a solid book, a very good score and remarkably fine work from its two leads. The show may be rough around the edges, but the high octaine production and infectious high spirits of theacting company make this the feel good show of the year. If you want a good time, this musical is for you.
A M A Z I N G
by Broadway587 on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 at 11:27 amI saw this show twice in one weekend on my senior showcase trip to NY back in March. I have to disagree to the person below me. The show is VERY original. Based loosely on real people, EVERY song is New and Original and its not a typical jukebox musical. It has a very good written plot and has a lot of meaning and heart behind it. The choreography is breathtaking and I am still shocked it wasnt nominated for Best Choreography for the Tonys... Lots of high energy from the entire cast throughout and it leaves you wanting more and to come back! I highly recommend it to everyone.
Nothing new. Dull!
by al10029 on Saturday, Apr 17th, 2010 at 6:55 pmIts a mix between HAIRSPRAY and DREAMGIRLS. Frankly, its dull and the music is fair at best. There is nothing original about this show. Its a tourist trap. Avoid spending your money--see NEXT TO NORMAL next door instead.
Going to Memphis

Two more thumbs up
by darwin.moore on Wednesday, Dec 9th, 2009 at 10:06 amWe saw a bunch of shows over Thanksgiving weekend, and Memphis was far and away the best new musical. I agree that it should be a strong Tony contender, and Montego Glover will emerge as a new Broadway star. She is fabulous, as is the whole cast. A great evening of theater.
Must See Memphis!
by pathouser on Saturday, Nov 28th, 2009 at 12:25 pmMemphis was fantastic! The show was packed with gifted actors, a beautiful stage setting, wonderful costumes, powerful vocals, dynamic dance numbers, an interesting, humorous storyline with likeable characters and songs that ranged from R&B to gospel. I highly recommend this one and would love to see it again. If this show doesnt win an award, Id be surprised. This one is definitely a must-see!
Must See! Fantastic!!
by swilson57 on Monday, Nov 23rd, 2009 at 11:37 pmI saw it on Saturday night and it was wonderful. The music was great. It is one of those shows that moves you. If you have a chance to go, you will not regret it. It is an experience.

Wow!
by babblingwally on Tuesday, Oct 27th, 2009 at 3:37 pmI thought it was fantastic! The music was excellent, the dancing was spectacular, and it had a good story. I was frustrated and appalled by the way people were treated in the 50s in the south, but at the same time I wanted to cheer for Hueys character for trying to change it. It was definitely one of the best shows I have seen all year and for me it was one of those shows that you dont want to end. Chad Kimball was great as Huey and Montego Glover blew me away. She has an incredible voice and seeing her perform gave me goosebumps. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and I hope to see it again one day.
love this show
